Wire color code

I have a lowrance x60 I have installed on the bow of my bass boat. The unit is used and on the cable for the power source there is three wires.<br />1--red<br />2--- black<br />3 --- white<br />I am assuming that red is positive and black is negative. But what is the white for? <br />illumination maybe?
