I have a Yamaha 50 2 stroke (2004) (50TLRC). This picture is in my 2004 Yamaha 50 2stroke: Has anybody dealt with this type of wire connector ? I don't know whether it's a permanent connection ( crimp on ) or a detachable connection ( like bullet connectors ). I need to splice a wire into one of these wires and want to start pulling a connection apart that's meant to be permanent and start fouling up my wiring. Any help ? Thanks.

And why do you need to splice it? If you are adding something, and need a power source, there must be a better way than cutting up the harness.

In the 1st pix, there are 2 parts to the 1/2 of the connector you're touching. Almost looks like this might be both a fusible link and a butt connector.

The joint between the green rubber piece your touching and the other rubber part look to be a butt connector. But what is the seperate metal ferrule inside that rubber boot at your finger? Why is it there and seperate?

Thanks for replies -
GRUB54891 : i need to attach my STARTER ISOLATION ( in Bluesea ACR ) to the IGNITION SWITCH SIGNAL which would be the small brown wire on the small post of the starter solenoid ; but it looks like a real pain to get under the starter solenoid [ lots of other wires to push and pull out of the way. So I am investigating if this connector on this wire is an easy place to make my connection.

jbcurt00 : . I don't know what's in there; can't really see a lot. I never thought of a fusable link but.... I was looking for a Yamaha outboards direct forum but didn't find one. Maybe i'll try calling them, Or ask at my Yamaha marina. There are several of this type of connector in my motor.

Thanks for the replies... Don

99yam40, Do you have experience with these? Is there a fusable link in there too ? See other comments re. my reason for asking. Thanks

I just saw it looked like the bullet connectors on my C40.
I do not know if it has anything else inside the plastic or not.
Your local dealer should be able to help to with info

Here's what the BlueSeas rep. told me to do ( verbatim) : Once you figure out which wire is active during engine cranking only then simply clip that wire and splice it into a new wire for the ACR.

m But the solenoid post might still be the easiest; I just hope I don't pull anything else loose trying to get to it.
