A mercury 500 50hp , I had some old wires catch on fire , I taped them up to cover all the bare spots but now I can't get any juice to my spark plugs. What is wrong? thanks

Re: Wire Fire!

If things are catching on fire, there's something else wrong!!! Depending on how old your motor is, it could be the ignition switch, magneto(s), secondary coils, distributor, points, powerpack, trigger, plug wires, etc. Your best bet is to get a good manual for your motor and go through the troubleshooting section to narrow down what the problem is, then come back for more specific help! Another option is to pay someone (a mechanic) and let it be their problem! :D

Re: Wire Fire!

If you've had a 'wire fire' then you've got at least one break in that wire. This leads to the distinct possibility you've got similar problems elsewhere. You need to make a careful inspection of the wireing loom and make replacements elsewise you will have another fire! Bloody scary things to have happen at sea, and one that you're wife won't thank you for!!<br />Ross
