Wire on fuel pump cup screw...

Mercruiser 3.0 engine...
Necessary to put the little piece of wire back on the screw at the bottom of the cup when replacing the fuel filter?

it keeps the screw from vibrating loose and then spewing fuel in your bilge....leading to an explosion
