i was removing carbs for cleaning on 50hp merc the startor slipped and pulled the green wire out of white housing (cant tell if it a plug connection or what) right under neath the flywheel. it looks it happened to previous owner as well as the end of the wire has soldier on it . the white plug connection where the wire was pulled from has a tab thats looks like it holds it into the metal housing. but doesnt seem to move ..can that part be removed ..or pulled out of the metal housing to repair the wire connection or is the fly wheel going to have to come off? thanks

Either the year or serial number would help.

Re: wired pulled out of plug housing at flywheel

Your right about the year it's a 1985 but it's built in the USA. The bad news it the wire that is loose is not a plug in, who ever soldered the wire on the first fix got it hot enough to melt the internal solder on the joint inside the stator and when you dropped the starter it pulled the wire out of the jacket and it's none repairable so you need to get a stator to repair the damaged one. CDI stators would be the best choice.

so i take it that white thing in the pic is the actual bottom of the stator? and to replace it i assume the flywheel needs to be pulled off with a puller? .. i hate to buy a manual as im just trying to get rid of the boat

thanks

white thing is a plastic eye to prevent wires from rubbing on metal
