Me again, got the final issue to finish up before i get her in the water sunday... I got an operational fuel guage now, I have a working temp guage, and now want my tach to work so I have the 3 obvious and important instruments functioning. Everything i read, says the tach lead comes from the control box. Says its a part of the 3-wire plug comming from under the ignition key. I guess the engine's wire bundle brings the signal from the stator (or flywheel area) and brings it into the control box? Ok, I checked the wires on the 3 wire removeable plug and found one to be the ground, one to be energized only when key is on and one to be completely NOT installed and actually has a rubber plug in it to keep moisture out. Looks like it came that way from the manufacturer. Am i right in thinking there is supposed to be a 3rd wire comming from there which is the "S" wire for the tach? If so, what gives? Now, I did find and remove a cheap wire that went to the engine (home-made job). It was fastened to a ring terminal on the starboard side just infront of the starboard power pack to a terminal block labeled 1 thru 6. This particular wire was attached to the number 6 but ended just inside the boat and did not go up to the instruments (it was previously cut). I am thinking someone was using that as the tach signal. I thought that was bad and could cause issues with the charging / electrical system when a tach is hooked up improperly. I am looking for some ideas from you guys becuase i don't like to do things improper. Thank you for any advise you can give

The plug on the remote control is supposed to be pre-wired with the purple and the black wires running from the ignition switch as shown in the diagram: http://www.maxrules.com/graphics/omc_pics/REMCONTBOX.jpg

The gray signal wire runs through the main harness, into the remote and directly to the plug.

The thumbnail is a sketch that shows the plug wires in case you don't have the factory tachometer harness.

Thank You, that diagram is exactly what I have read. So is there a factory plug I can buy, or should i just tap into the grey wire? I am good with wiring once I know what to wire into!

Make your own mating plug. Get the terminals at Radio Shack.
