I have to pass this on, as I was about to buy a new antenna for my pc
wireless card that had an amplifier. While looking around, I found these
instructions about how to rebuild your existing antenna to add on an amplifier.

I used a piece of solid copper wire from #14 gauge house wire, and soldered
it to the end of the existing wire after making the 7 wraps around a screw.
I think it's better to leave about 1" of the existing on the original, as some
of the insulation needs to stay on the wire close to the base.
Anyway, the results are fantastic! My signal strength was increased about
4 times of what it was before.
