Ive got a CMC PT-130 Hydraulic unit. It is working fine but the two wire main wires are getting extremely hot. When the unit is running of course. They even smoke sometimes.

Any Ideas?

Thanks.

Check all the connections and make sure they are clean and tight.

Wires only smoke when they are carrying too much current for their size. That could be poor wiring, but it is more likely an overloaded motor in the unit.

Check for binding in the mechanism, overload (outboard weight), binding in the outboard pivot mechanism or some other fault that is causing an overload on the pump motor.

It would be helpful if we didn't have to guess what make and model outboard you are tilting with that thing, too.

Good luck. :)

1987 85 HP Force..... Way under what that unit can handle. The unit works fine and has always worked perfectly. It wasn't working for a while because it needed fluid. And I couldn't get the screws out to fill it because they were corroded in. But just yesterday I got them out and filled it up and the thing works fine now.

Just hot wires....???
