Wiring - 1969 Evinrude - Crestliner

Hey guys, I am a total beginner with boating. I want to get my boat up and going but I cannot even figure out where to start. I have recharged the battery and it looks like there is at least some power to certain components. Whoever previously wired this boat did a hack job, with wires hanging everywhere. I would like to run fresh wiring throughout the boat. Where can I start. Are there kits I can get out there. Does anyone have a wiring diagram they can send to me? As usual, this is a budget project so I need to keep the cost low. Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You have kinda an oldie here so I 'm going to suggest that you spend the 60 to 80 bucks at the local shop to tell you if this motor is something you want to take on.Give them one hour, in that time they should be able to pressure/vac your gearcase ,do ignition output test,compression test,see if the prop is seized on the shaft,and check out that wireing.At that point at least you'll have an idea what you're up against.

Dante, Hondon has a point. Make sure it's going to be worth the investment first. With the age of the boat, odds are the original wiring is shot, especially if a previous owner has monkeyed with it. If you just have the typical loads (lights, horn, bilge pump) and not a lot else it shouldn't be too complicated to start over. Make sure you use a good tinned copper marine wire of the proper gauge and the proper terminals, and a switchbox with integrated circuit breakers makes things much easier. Some of the wiring I've seen in older boats around here makes me want to buy stock in a fire extinguisher company.
