I'm needing to replace the stock 'hydro-electric' shift selector switch with the 3 way (nav light) switch as suggested in past posts. I think i'm clear on hooking up the green & blue wires, I presume the purple w/green stripe wire coming from acc on ignition switch goes to the common providing 12V when ignition is 'on'. The white wires that went to the stock switch presumably 'make' & 'break' the starter wire to allow starting only in neutral. Do you have a way to keep this wire switched for 'neutral safety' or should I not worry about it. Different question, the wiring diagram (thankyou Papasage) shows a gray wire that seems to lead to nothing in the control box, does that sound right. By the way this is a 72 65HP hydro electric drive (mod 65ESL-72S)

Re: wiring 3 way switch for hydro-shift

if i remember right, when you have no power to the green or blue wires the motor is in forward gear, with power just to the blue wire it is in neutral, and power to blue and green it is in reverse. what are you doing replacing the origanal switches with toggle switches? if so to start you will need power to the blue to be in neutral, then shut it off to go in forward.
