Hi, just picked up a 1993 Evinrude 50, ( right price ) only trouble is the wiring loom has been hacked through by some muppet,
so i need to:

a) order a manual,
b) ask your advice on what colour wires do what, as i need to use ASAP

By the time the book arrives i hope to have been using the engine for a few weeks.

Thanks in advance

Re: Wiring colours

Color....Keyswitch post

Red/purple...B (battery)
Yellow/red...S (start)
Purple...A (accessory)
Purple/while...C (choke)
Black/yellow...raised M (magneto), the kill wire
Black...other M, ground (usually known as "earth" in places where "color" is spelled "colour") :)

Tan = overtemp horn, run a purple wire from post A to the other side of the horn.
Gray = tach sender.

Wire the emergency lanyard across (in parallel with) the two M terminals (the black/yellow kill wire is grounded to shut off spark).
