I AM TRYING TO HOOK UP MY WIRES BACKUP TO MY TACH WHICH IS IN MY BOAT. THERE ARE FIVE WIRES TOTAL THAT ARE COMING FROM THE HARNESS FROM MY THROTTLE CONTROL. THE COLOR OF THE WIRES ARE AS FOLLOWS:
(PURPLE) (GRAY) (BROWN W/WHITE STRIPE) (BLACK) (LIGHT BROWN)

NOW ON THE TACHOMETER THERE ARE 4 TERMINALS, 2 OF WHICH I CAN IDENTIFY; ONE IS "IGN" AND THE OTHER IS "SEND". THE OTHER TWO TERMINALS I CAN'T IDENTIFY. ALSO ON THE TACHOMETER, THERE IS A BLUE WIRE THAT IS ALREADY CONNECTED TO THE "IGN" TERMINAL AND TO ONE OF THE TERMINALS THAT I CANNOT IDENTIFY. LOOKING AT THE BACK OF THE TACHOMETER, THE "IGN" AND "SEND" TERMINALS ARE SIDE BY SIDE; ALSO THERE IS A TERMINAL(WHICH I CAN'T IDENTIFY) IS LOCATED ABOVE

Re: wiring diagram for my boat tachometer

You need to post this in the "BOATS" forum. Use the drop down menu at the bottom of the page to select the forum, hit go. Once there, post a new topic.

Since I don't know what make/model you are working on, I will direct you to this link.
The right hand column has installation instructions for various guages.

http://www.tflx.com/tech.html

If you still have questions, post in the boat forum.
Good Luck.

Re: wiring diagram for my boat tachometer

The ign is a positive 12 v from the ignition switch at the control box. It is on only when the ignition is on, and will typically be a wire that powers several instruments with switched 12v power. Send should be the pulse signal from the alternator that comes out of the control box. You may need an engine schematic from clymers manual or other to identify this wire. there will be a ground terminal, and a small terminal or two(the other gnd discussed may or may not double for the light gnd) for +12v and gnd to the instrument light (usually high on the back of the instrument). Your instrument light gnd is probably tied to the main instrument gnd since you have 4 posts total. I suggest that you draw a schematic of the wires, and it will not be too hard to figure out. Good luck!
