Hello all.... I am taking the primer bulb out of my fuel line and replacing it with a Mr. Gasket 12S electric fuel pump. ( WHY) you ask?... I bought this motor (used) last spring for my pontoon boat and was intended to be used for trolling crankbaits for crappie but I can't keep it running at idle speed. This motor had less than 40 hrs. on it when I bought it but was left sitting up with ethanol fuel in it for 3 years. The previous owner tried to crank it with the old fuel in it and he melted the high pressure pump in the vst. So far I have replaced high pressure pump,(twice) vst float and needle/seat, filters, low pressure pump, fuel lines under cowling, 2 fuel hoses with primer bulbs, and fuel tank. Nothing has remedied the problem. Otherwise the motor runs like a champ, purrs like a kitten most of the time BUT just as soon as I get out on the lake and start putting lines in the water it runs out of fuel, idle drops from 750 rpm down around 500 or so, motor starts stumbling and dies. Not fun when you have 7 or 8 crankbaits out 50 to 60 feet behind the boat . If I'm hear it in time I can run back and pump the primer bulb a couple of times and it will catch back up and idle fine for a few minutes ( sometimes ten to fifteen minutes, sometimes only a minute or two). I am finally to the point of either running this electric pump or selling this motor and getting another one which will be hard as I am living on a fixed income. I have replaced all the spring clamps on the fuel hoses with screw clamps and have bypassed the lift pump (mechanical low pressure pump). Now I am ready to wire the pump up. My question is "Is there a place under the cowling where I can pick up 12V.+ only when ignition is on to wire the pump into?" I knoiw I can wire it into my ignition switch
