In order to keep better track of maintenance intervals I would like to install a third-party hourmeter on my boat w/ 1999 Yamaha SX200TXRX.

Here is a shot of the wiring behind the standard Yamaha multi-gauges:

From what I understand, the yellow wire has +12V when the ignition key is ON, correct?

What is the best way to tap into this wire? Just a simple cut and splice with heat-shrink butt connectors? Or should I try to see if there is a way to connect in with the wiring harness directly?

Thanks,

-- Tom

Re: Wiring for Hour Meter on Yamaha

usually uou can find an unused yellow female bullet connector, if not the sell a "tree" just for adding more accesories, I dont reccomend cutting and splicing especially if your crimpers are not a good quality. and NOT the stamped steel version.
