WIRING - gauges and ignition

I am working on an old Whaler. I switched out the Evinrude Control box with a Morse MT3. In doing so my ignition is mounted to the console. I am hooking up gauges in this order water pressure, voltmeter, temperature (1), temperature (2) and tachometer. These are on an '87 Ev 90HP. I daisy chained them as I had read but when tested the voltmeter loses volts when all are connected just as the tach, as the last on the chain is reading below 9 volts. Is this wired OK ? I tried 2 tachs and they don't want to work. I can understand one being bad ...

Also when it says to IGNITION which post on the ignition are they talking about "A" or "B" ?

Re: WIRING - gauges and ignition

OK there is more going on here. I replaced rectifier and battery. Before starting engine battery at 12.5 volts and after starting it is still registering only 12.5. Now the moments of self doubt. I tested per CDI the voltage at the bus where the stator and rectifier come together. This was with my homemade DVA I got the instructions from here. My self doubt is 1) I connected a banana clip off the DVA to bus strip at the yellow wires and another clip to engine ground. I did this on both yellow connections. Results one was ZERO and the other was alittle over .5 volts. My other point I am doubting is if there is a problem with my DVA. Any common test I can perform to make sure it is working correctly ? Maybe the stator is shot but I checked it out when I did the rectifier replacement and it LOOKED OK. Tired of replacing things.

You are connecting the meter incorrectly. You check the stator yellow wires ohms and voltage by connecting the meter between the 2 yellows. Wires disconnected from strip.

You are right but something is wrong. The system is not charging and I should be getting way over 12 volts on both those. This is per the rectifier tests (on page 8 CDI Troubleshooting Guide - http://www.cdielectronics.com/Support.aspx ). Hopefully this isn't turning into a viscous circle. After installing new rectifier I came across 2 issues. 1) After cranking and cranking and no start ( not enough CRANK), I realized ... after a while I had not tightened up the connections at the solenoid an starter after rectifier replacement. All this takes place after several occasions. After this I must have warn my battery down BUT I did not realize it because my charger must have been faulty and was telling me battery was full. After banging my head against wall I finally put my multi-tester on battery and found I was only at 7 volts. The battery is replaced now. Hopefully I did not screw up that new CDI rectifier with all that carelessness.
