Wiring harness question

I had to get into my wiring harness this weekend to replace a horn. I put all the wires back into a budle with LOTS of electrical tape, but it seemed that they were originally wrapped with somehting far more sticky than electrical tape (I may be wrong here). I just want to be sure that it will remain water proof since it is exposed to the elements (Polar Kraft aluminum).

Is there a better tape to wrap it with?

What exactly did you do to the harness? Did you cut and splice wires? If so you should have used heat shrink tubing to cover the splices and then wrapped the harness. Liquid electrical tape is available to make a water resistant seal for the harness but it will probably survive with electrical tape.

I unwrapped the tape surrounding the wires until I realized that the horn assembly had a male/female connector outside the area that I unwrapped. Nothing was cut (outside the tape to get it to peel off). No splicing or anything.

That harness is not water proof.
Aren't there exposed wires at the ends of the harness?

Re: Wiring harness question

I have been using some of that new silicone self fusing tape. The stuff is awesome. Pricey though.
