I'm a novice at boat wiring and mechanics, but here is where I'm at. I picked up this boat knowing there were problems.

1997 Sylvan Combo fish/fun 16" with console and 97 75hp mariner.

I had power at the key to start the motor, but no power at the bilge, acc, livewell, lights console. I found three wires, red, green and blue, where red had power. I attempted to redirect power from the red directly to the switches for bilge, acc, and livewell, and all of a sudden I get no power for starting the motor. Is there a fuse somewhere I blew? I checked everywhere and didn't see one? Now not only do I not have any accessories, but I can't start the motor.

I would appreciate any help and yes, I will order the manuals, but I'm anxious to get the boat on the water before it's too cold.

Thanks

Your boat and engine wireing are two separate systems.Find the two big thick wires that come right out of your engine ,then connect those cables ,and only those cables, to a fully charged battery. At this point you should have trim and tilt and the engine should crank and start freely.Remember that those battery terminal connections need to be very clean.

Re: Wiring Info on 97 Sylvan

I did check over the wiring and the reason I couldn't start the motor, was I blew the fuse on the motor (30amp), now my motor runs again. I still don't have any accesories or bilge, but a friend mentioned it could be only how I setup my wiring to the batteries. I have two wires that appear to go with the positive, which is the case with cars, but he said, maybe one should be grounded to close the circuit. I will do more tests and let you know.

Thanks
