Hi Y'all.
I joined up because I couldn't get my questions answered searching around for days. From what I've seen, this forum seems pretty helpful, so let's give it a try.
I have a 1990 Stratos 290SF, 1990 225 Johnson.
It runs great and we've had lots of fun with it but now it's time to make some things right.
I got a good deal on it planning to "restore" it. So far I've had the rotten floor replaced, carpet, seats redone, re-cleared and new graphics above the bumper rail. Got the motor serviced and put new bearings and tires on the trailer. Now its DIY time.
I want to fix the tach but I'm unsure of the wiring.
Which post on the back gets the input? The 12v & ground are labeled so no problem there. There's another post marked PUL and one with a circle with an "M" in it.
here's a picture. Please help me out. Thanks!

PUL = Pulse.......That's the tach's signal in stud. The "M" is just the manu's logo, BUT the wire on the stud next to that logo is the back light feed wire and stud.

Okay That awesome info. Now I can get to work and make sure those are going to the correct location.
The "courtesy Light" toggle is broke. I can rig it up how ever I want it to work but, typically, does it also light up the dash?

Oh! Sorry. In my excitement, I forgot to say THANKS!

You're welcome

No not usually, usually courtesy lights are just lights that shine on the deck and/or on steps and such. You should have just a "dash" switch...........

Thanks Sam am l.
I've run into another wire issue. I think not a big deal but but since I'm new to this stuff I'll post up my question and pics when I get a chance.
Thanks for your time and patience. Hopefully soon I'll be able to answer questions for others.

While following wires around and trying to sort out the bird nest left by someone, I found what I believe are the original tachometer wires. They are black, grey & purple coming from the stern. They feed into a plug and the purple wire is cut/broke right where it comes out so it's too short to splice (pic). If read the sticky wire diagram right, purple is a power feed to the tach, black is ground, grey is pulse.
My question is about the plug: is it something more than just a water tight plug? Do i need it or can I just bypass it for now?
Yeah, yeah, I know "You know nothing John Snow!" applies to me regarding boat stuff. 🤪 It's a new realm for me and I just need a little guided practice to get the hang of it.

Thanks Y'all

Brodie
