Re: Wiring Problem on 1972 50hp Seahorse
I don't have a 1972 Johnson 50, and don't have a service manual for one, so I'll have to offer generic advice.
On your motor, that should be a shorting circuit used to shut the motor down. There should be a yellow/black wire coming from the connector plug that joins the connector plug from the remote control harness. If so, that circuit goes to the key switch and grounds the output side of the powerpack when you turn the key to the off position. If this circuit is not hooked up, and you have returned the rest of the wiring to its original configuration, the motor should run. You will have to shut it off by using the choke or by interrrupting the fuel supply.
If your motor is a tiller model, there may be a push button type "shorting switch" in the cowl somewhere - once again, I'm not familiar with your specific motor, so I'm not exactly sure where it will be. If so, however, one wire off of the switch should go to ground and the other should be the are you are looking for.
Hope this helps!
