Wiring Question - Electric Choke

Hi everyone,

I'm wiring in an electric fuel pump for my 5.7, and the wiring schematic says that I need to tap into a purple/yellow wire and send it to the electric choke.

My question is - which terminal on the choke? I'm using an Edelbrock 600 cfm marine carburetor.

Also - what about the other terminal - what goes there and where does it lead to? I can't find that in the schematic.

Please see pic for reference and thanks!

Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to wire in an electric fuel pump in my 5.7, and what wondering what do I do with the 5 wires from the relay?

From memory, there are only 2 that I can tap into near the pump.

Please see pic for reference.

Thanks.

Ahhhhh need more info about the 5.7 motor, and what does the 5 pin relay have to do with what your trying to do? I have an idea but I gave up mind reading years ago

I see a plus sign on the middle post, that would carry the power. The other terminal is the ground.

Plus side on choke gets power from ignition (purple wire). Other side goes to ground.

Take a shot of the wiring diagram that came with your relay. It will be clear enough to interpret.

Thanks everyone.

I'm using the schematic from the Mercruiser shop manual. I don't have it with me right as I'm typing this, but will take a pic this weekend an upload it.

I actually have a question regarding even needing the relay, as I'm re-wiring the entire engine and many of the lines lead back into the 50amp fuse.

Thanks again and updates to follow.

Post the RELAY Wiring diagram. That makes it easy to tell you power goes to red, etc.

Yes, you want and need a relay. That protects the oil pressure switch from burning out and leaving you afoot.

IF that is a Hella water proof relay base, be careful, I had one where the #s on the wires were all wrong, as far as which terminal is which. Look at the actual terminals on the relay and then label your wires accordingly so you won't make a mistake. I used it to wire up my electric choke with the B+ terminal (30) getting power from the Battery terminal on the alt, and the trigger terminal on the relay (85) getting power from the L2 (indicator light) terminal on the Alt. This way the choke is only going to open when the alt is charging (engine running). Terminal 85 is grounded and 87a is not used. The output from the relay is 87.
