Wiring Question?

I'm about to rewire my boat. It looks like the old wire is old speaker wire!! I need some suggestions on what gauge wire I should get? Only gonna do the boat, not the motor.
Also, I guess, would it be worth it to install a fuse box and/or color coordinate the wiring to match it up to the pattern now-a-days?
My boat is a 1963 Glasspar (17 ft), 40 hp Evinrude...
Thanks in advance everyone and anyone!!!!

Re: Wiring Question?

Fuse box yes, color-coding not worth the trouble (not to me anyway). Didn't want to buy all those different colors. I stuck to yellow for pumps, white for lights, red for 12V, black for ground other stuff (horn, sonar) whatever was at hand. 16gauge ought to cover pretty much anything, some stuff could probably use 18.

Rewiring - a real labor of love. But hey, there's lots worse ways to spend a Saturday.

Re: Wiring Question?

Thanks I appreciate it! Wasn't sure and the new different wiring colors seem like a hassle. Plan on just doing some more research on fuse boxes and how to go about it. Thanks again!
