wiring question

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and I have a little problem and was wondering if anyone can help. On the "heat sensor buzzer" or horn that I have in my boat, there are two cables conected to it, one is beige, which comes from the wire harness from the motor, and the otherone is black with a yellow line, this cable is just hanging loose from the horn, it oviously broke off from where he was connected to and I looked around to see if I could determain from where he broke off from, but I cannot see from where he was connected to before braking loose. Someone told me that this is the "emergency cut-off cable" when the motor overheats. In my boat, I do not have a "remote control box" or a "control box", simply each individual cable that comes out of the wire harness, go to the ignition switch and others to the gages. Can anyone please advise me to where I should be re-connecting this black/yellow cable to, I'm very concern in using the boat without having the horn connected. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot guys!

Re: wiring question

Glock45.... The beige wire is actually a tan wire. This tan wire leads to the heat sensor at a minimum, and other components (VRO, Vacuum Switch, Oil Level Indicator) depending on what engine you might have (you didn't say). Notice the instructions at the top of the topic page.

The other wire should be a plain "Black" wire which would lead to ground. The "Black/Yellow" wire normally would be a part of the "kill" circuit. I would assume that someone mistakenly connected it to the horn which would really do weird things.

To avoid future confusion, I'd suggest that you remove that "Black/Yellow" wire from the horn, then connect a plain black wire to it, running the other end to a known ground.

After you've done that, you can test the horn by turning the ignition key to the ON position, then find the heat sensor at the cylinder head (tan wire), and ground out that sensor conection. That completes the heat/horn circuit and the horn should sound.

Re: wiring question

Let us know what year, make and model engine you have. I figger it's an OMC, what with the black wire with the white stripe coming out of the heat sensor.

c/6

Hooty

Re: wiring question

Joe, my motor is '89,150-hp,Evinrude. I will try doing what you suggested, of which I'm sure you right with your experience, when I get back from NC and I will post the results, Thanks both of you guys for replying.

Roger.

Re: wiring question

The black wire w/white stripe goes to the powerpack but I'm not sure what it does. Could it be the S-L-O-W?

c/6

Hooty

Re: wiring question

Hooty...... Not black/white, is black/yellow = kill circuit to the pack.
