I'm wondering what type and where to get either similar orignal wire or replacement wire to repair the two wires coming from the point/timinmg plate (basically from the points) which go (one to ground I think and the other to the trigger wire) for the switch box. I previously repaired one of these wires which apparently from age and repeted movements by the control lever eventually breaks the wires which also affects throttle up by either no or reduced current which results inthe motor cutting out.
Now I have to do this micro surgery all over again.
This is on a 1969 85HP Johnson.
Original wires have either an open colsed eyelet end on one end and a flat push on terminal on one of the other ends and appear to be either aluminum or some fine wire other than copper?
Information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Wiring repair

The primary wire is supposed to have a rubber molded plug on the outside end. Kind of pricey. Anyway, get them from any Evinrude dealer. If you want to make your own, see if Radio Shack still sells test lead wire. I know they used to. It is the super flexible wire you are speaking of.
