I need some help and some good ideals on how to wire a starter on a 40 horse Johnson that has none. Also where to put the starter switch. This is a tiller drive motor. Also is there a way to wire a kill switch as a on switch for the starter so not to kill the battery. I would perfer to hook up a push button switch to start motor without a key. I am not the best on wiring so a digram would be very helpful.

My bad this is a 83 I have no wire harness not planning on tring to recharge battery just wont to hook up starter quick and simple to work.

Need a year/model number. The 40 was made for many years and are not all alike.

Do you have the starter yet? It must be an early model if it had no electric start. Have you been pull starting it for long? Ouch.

Basically you need to add in a battery, a solenoid, a switch and a starter motor... But yes, what model/year is it?
