I am trying to straighten out the wiring under the dash of my boat. The previous owner has crimped and spliced wires everywhere. The reason for the change is that the guages are working intermittenly. They were all wired through the Nav. light switch. Where can I get information on the wires coming from the engine (89 johnson 110hp v4) and the pin outs of the connector coming for the engine and also the proper way to have the guages wired? Thank you. Please email with info.

Re: Wiring

Hi Shannon. When you say they are wired through the nav switch do you mean the back lights on the gauges. If they are it should,nt be a problem. The previous owner did this so as the back lights would come on with the nav lights.Check all the spade connectors on the gauges for good contect. The lights are normally wired through the ignition key.Don,t know about the engine wires but you should try the o/b section of the forum.

Re: Wiring

It's not just the nav lights. He also had the guages themselves wired through so the guages would only work if you switched the nav. lights on. I'm just curious if there is anything that I should do other than putting them (guages and guage lights) on the ignition circuit and then running a ground for the guages to the battery?

Re: Wiring

That should work although no harm in leaving the gauge lights wired with the nav lights, assume most of your running is daytime so no need to have the lights on all the time. Good ground is very important for the gauges to work properly.

Re: Wiring

Thanks guys. I suspected a ground issue.

I now need to find out what else he has powered through that switch. There are about 5 or 6 wires all ganged on that one switch. This is were I need help with finding a wiring diagram/pinout for the engine to boat harness. I'll try the engine forum but if anyone has any info that would be great. I have a clymer manual on the engine but it doesn't show any of the wires coming from the engine to the console.

Re: Wiring

There should be a ground block near the fuse block under the dash. The hot wires going to the gauges should be purple in colour and wired in a daisychain configuration.

I was just driving around on holiday. I was in Ireland for 8 days. Stayed 2 days in Portrush, became a certified Bushmills taste tester and saw all the other attractions up there. No one ever talks about the seafood in Ireland. I was amazed at the assortment. But I really shouldn't be it is an island after all. Beautiful country.

Hi Shannon.
I hope it won,t be your last visit. There are still lots of other things to see and do in the North. If you do come again, give me a shout and we,ll crack open a bottle of Bush and talk about the green glens of Antrim.I could also take you for a run in the boat.
Regards Raymond. :)

Raymond,
It won't be my last. There are many places that we didn't have time to see that need exploring. I really screwed up my timing on the trip and missed out on the Northwest 200 and the IoM TT. Would love to catch some of that as well. The next visit might be a bicycle tour of the Isle. I had hoped to do some fishing while I was there also but again time was too short. As you can see I have a list of things that I still want to do so I will be back. The offer sounds great and I will keep you informed.
