What happens if you hook both wires red/yellow and purple together on the terminal closest to the block? Will it damage anything?

I have moved you post off the previous thread as it was 4 years old, and we ask that old threads not be posted to.

Now, what engine are you referring to?

hook both wires red/yellow and purple together

Agree what motor

Purple = ignition ON, and has 12V full time once key is turned ON
Yellow/Red = Starter engage, has 12V on when key is turned to START

Connecting the two together will keep the starter cranking full time even after motor starts, Bad Idea

The wires were hooked up to the small terminal closest to the block.

Why does the voltage drops to 9.46 volts when cranking after reconnecting wires? Motor sat for 25 yrs and was stuck/seized.

Voltage dropped when testing terminals were on the batteries.

nic420 were just guessing because we had NO idea what our working on.

It's a Mecruiser 4.3 w/ Thunderbolt IV ignition.

This gets us closer and also says there are no Red/Yel wires only Yel/Red

So as stated above don't connect then together.

Who knows why some dummy connected the wires together before you, but if they were being connected on the starter closest to the block then this may have been to power the fuel pump :noidea:

Motor sat for 25 years and if the motor will not crank, then its just might be shot.

Are the batteries fully charged and new bats, not old ones?
