Won't do nothing. I have a hot battery and the trim goes up and down. But, I can't get anything else. It must be either:
Key switch, kill switch or the neutral switch. I started messing with it this afternoon, but it got dark on me. Would appreciate a sequence to find the culprit.
Yamaha 150, 2004 model on a Seapro.

Re: Won't Crank

I had a similar problem with 2000 90HP it turned out to be the neutral kill switch. If you look where your throttle linkage is on the engine , the switch is a small plastic/rubber part with two brown wires (I think there brown) that has a spring on it almost looks like a small motors "off switch" and when you put your throttle in neutral it has a plate that compresses the kill switch that allows it to complete the circuit to start. In my case the metal plate that holds the kill switch broke. You can find the switch press it in with your finger and If your motor starts that's your problem.

Its easier if you just go back to the starter solenoid, unplug the brown wire and touch it to the red power wire next to it. If the motor spins then you know the problem is probably in the helm. If it doesn't spin, then its in either the connections or solenoid. The kill switch will not prevent it from spinning over

I could be wrong but when my neautal kill switch fell out of place my motor acted dead would do nothing if I pushed in the switch motor fired up. Now if I pull the kill switch at the helm motor will spin but not fire. Also had the starter relay go out on the same motor had very similar symptoms.

Re: Won't Crank

I've been sick lately, so I haven't had time to fool with it. But, after riding in a neighbor's boat yesterday, got the 'fever" back. It is a 2005 Yamaha 2 stroke, 150TXRD. I pulled the ignition switch and tested the kill switch. It is an open circuit until the peg is pulled from it, then closes. I assume it goes to ground and shorts it out. So, that appears to be working.
I check continuity on the starter switch and can not get anything from the red lead to any other lead in any position, OFF, RUN, START, CHOKE. So, I am leaning towards a new switch.
