1973 johnson 115.
model 115ESL73M Serial 1388075
My engine won't crank. Have replaced coils,
starter and solenoid. Had running and would not shut off so took igniton swith apart and touched black w/ yellow wire to 2 black ground wires and sparks flew and it shut off. Now it wont do anything. Was told to check in line fuse replaced it still nothing. Could it be the power pack if not what could it be. Woould it make a difference if there is no brass bolts between wires on solenoid. Thank you

Re: Won't crank

I would highly recommend a manual for that type of trouble shooting because you may have burnt out your stator, rectifier, and who knows what all. spend 30-35 bucks on a manual and save yourself hundreds.......that electrical stuff ain't cheap.

Ok don't know if this make much difference or not but you can cross out the solenoid and it will crank. Think i will order a manual but in the mean time thanks for all the help.

Yeah,

It will crank, but with what you told us so far, it sounds like you may have caused more damage by not following procedures that are outlined in the service manuals.

Not trying to get on your case or anything, but an outboard motor is not a Chevy, and fooling around with things without knowing the procedures is just going to cost you more $ down the road.

Kenny
