Wont go into gear

I was out yesterday and while on plane I heard a lound clunk, kind of like I hit something(which I didnt since I was in 40 FOW). When I stopped the boat to check it out, the prop was fine and it started right up but when I tried to engage the throttle it would not go in forward or reverse. The throttle lever would but the engine would not engage. Sounds like a broken throttle cable? is this an easy fix or should I take it in to a licensed mechanic? I do have a manual. Thanks for all your help.

if you were on plane, the throttle cable shouldn't be a factor..

I'm not sure of your particular model, but a loud "bang" or sensation of hitting an underwater obstacle, followed by an inability to get into gear sounds like a classic case of a bad clutch dog and/or shift rod connector. However, I'm not terribly familiar with large modern engines like yours, but if the motor "runs" but doesn't "go" I'd look at the lower end rather than a fuel delivery issue. Good luck.

Can i readjust myself or shop work?

Same problem this saturday but went in gear forward and was hard to get reverse, can i adjust cable if thats the problem
