I have a 92 Johnson 40 hp I bought it not running but the compression checked out at 121 on both cylinders cold.I drained the bad gas, installed new plugs and it fired up immediately but wouldn't idle.I installed a new waterpump, changes the foot oil ,removed the carbs disassembled and cleaned them WELL fired it back up and it ran better but still wouldn't idle and ran rough .It would run if I bumped the key primer or gave it more fuel with the throttle bu then it would turn off with the key.I replaced the switch but really didn't think it was the problem as it wasn't checked the kill switch with a test light and ohmmeter . It was good.I tried testing th black and yellow wire with an ohmmeter from the switch to the engine and didnt get a connection at the harness where it plugs into the "power pack" .I had it unplugged. I did have a connection at the red harness connector . My problem is the killing of the engine with the key and idling and rough running. Please help?

Your posting in three different threads with different or expanded problems. Another issue is your posting in the Electrical section and these are motor problems. See if we can get GA_Boater to move

Not an OB guy but since it will run better if you bump the primer bulb, then check the fuel pump.

The OB is turned OFF by grounding the magneto which is done by the Black/Yellow wire

Fact ----9 out of 10 folks jump all over the carburetors on the first sign of running issues.---Refuse to do some simple trouble shooting.------Post the compression numbers.----Do a spark check.----Check the flywheel key as a sheared key throws out the timing.

Merged and moved every thing, including hijacks, into the J-E section where it should have been in the first place.

Denttech - Please read the title before of a thread before posting. A Mercruiser TnT issue had nothing to do with your poor idling Johnson.
