my evinrude 55 horse starts fine i warm it up,get going on plane then it loses rpm.<br />will not run properly i sprayed carb cleaner in the top carb it wants to die,but if i spray in bottom carb it revs up.<br />any ideas thanks to all who reply.<br />model #55672e.

Hi Chicken<br />It sounds like you are not getting fuel to the bottom cyl. The bad news is if you don't get fuel you don't get oil either. Carb cleaner spray washes oil away. Spraying this stuff down the throat of the carb does absolutely nothing in the way of cleaning a carb. You are just spraying it directly into the crank case and washing all the oil from your bearings and cyl walls. Do not do this. Remove that lower carb, disassemble it, then clean it with carb spray. Clean the top carb as well.

I would say that the bottom carb needs attention. Probably both as long as you are doing one. <br /><br />Since the bottom cylinder picks up when you manually add fuel, I would say the spark is OK.<br /><br />Keep in mind that as you run the motor the bottom cylinder is not getting fuel which means its not getting oil. Pistons dont react well to that. And spraying carb cleaner in there cleans away any oil that may be there.
