Wont shift into gear??? Merc Gen 1 Alpha 1

SO i was on the lake today. Everything was operating fine unitl I turned off the boat to have drink some water. Started her back up and NOTHING. It wont go into gear. Last year I had a brand new shift cable installed. Never had a problem until today. It feels like when you push in the side button to put into neutral and can rev the engine. Is there a clutch or could that button be stuck somehow? It is a Merc Alpha 1 Gen 1. Thanks.

Could be the button stuck, is the shift mechanism that the cables attach to on the engine moving?
