won't shut off ?

Hello, I have a 17' 1986 Renken with a 2.5 omc i/o. Sometimes but not all the time,i turn off the key and the motor keeps running. I've been asking around and someone said it could be backfeeding from the alt. Thanks, Mike

Does it run smoothly or chug and then stall when you turn it off?

It runs smooth.I replaced the ignition switch.but did not work

Disconnect the small wires to the alternator and try it. Leave the large power wire (Orange I think) hooked up.

yes that worked,I unpluged the small wire and it shut down.

your backfeeding, time to have the alt. rebuilt. most likely a bad diode
