Went out the other day and have a good run with our 3.0l mercruiser. We stop on a beach and shut down the engine for about 2 1/2 hours. When I tried to restart the engine, nothing happens. Turn the key 3 or 4 times nothing happens but the needles on the volt, fuel and oil pressure gauges worked. The the 5th try the engine crank over and start without problem. Was wondering if anyof you all ever experience something like this and could help me solve the problem. Would not like to get stranded out there in the water.

Thanks

Sounds like the starter solenoid got stuck or your ignition switch wasn't making good contact at the Start position.

Keep a meter or test light with you, if the problem comes up again, see if you're getting voltage to the coil side of the solenoid (small post closest to the engine).

Blank, burnt spot on the starter. Time for a change. I'd look at a starter/alternator rebuild shop. Much cheaper than buying from anywhere else.
