I just bought an old wooden 11' 4" row boat that has a covered bow and a transom for a small engine. What size motor should I be looking for? The boat also has a nice etched metal plate that says: 'David V. Holmes' with a Portland address and a very old phone number. I'm trying to find information on the boat and builder as well as engine size. Thanks a bunch. Frank

Re: Wooden boat motor size - info on builder

Motor size will depend on a number of things.
Is it a big beefy 11 footer.deep, seaworth intended to carry 3 guys and gear
A guess would be 10 to 25 hp.Is it light, shallow and intended to car top.
Could be as low as 3 to 5 hp.Penn Yan made an ultra light 12 ft cartop that
I think was rated at 6 hp.
