Yeah, it's a rough shift but somebody's gotta work it.

Pics are blurry due to camera phone. Monitors are crystal clear in reality.

Xbox fits nicely in my laptop bag, so nobody is the wiser coming in or going out of the building. :)

Dell 20.1" flat panel LCD (model 2001). VGA/DVI/Svideo/Composite input. Using svideo for xbox.

Also once I corrupt a few coworkers, all these rooms have individual gigabit switches, so can you say lan party?

:)

Depending on which boss it was, they might get in on the party.

Hey it's this or sleep. Don't get me wrong when it's busy, it's busy. But when it's not.... It's not. :)

I agree JB, I used to work in a place where many of the employees worked harder at avoiding work then if they just did their jobs.

PS the mill is now closed, over 300 people lost their jobs.

Re: Working hard here, third shift.

No doubt about it not a good thing to do. No offense SN but I could never do that. My conscious just would not let me. I believe in giving a good days work every day.

Sometimes my work takes me into the administrative building. Working overhead running wire and data lines in the ceiling. Unbelievable how many folks I see goofing on the computer rather than working. Being that tax dollars pay our salaries the public in general is getting ripped off.

The American work ethic is going down the tubes more with every generation. Sad!

I agree, keeping your mind alert is always better than falling asleep on the job when there is nothing to do.

I understand some jobs are like that, where you're a watchdog and have to wait for something to happen.

Re: Working hard here, third shift.

OK, for those of you coming down on me...

I work in an information technology customer support environment supporting midrange and enterprise servers and applications. Customers come to our site to do D/R testing. metimes they are here for days. Sometimes they are here for hours. Sometimes when they are here for days, they go home at night. We stay manned 24X7 in case someone has an issue while they are on site, so we can respond with a 0 minute turnaround. No calling or paging people at 3:00am, there is always someone (me) right there to answer the phone, and walk into their testing center to help them. Sometimes there is just nobody around, especially weekend nights. Do you think I would be able to do it in such obvious plain sight if it was that much of an issue? I don't work a mill. I don't work an assembly line. I don't make a quota. It's a totally different environment than most people, including me, have ever worked in.

I remember when I started, coming from a production environment, when things slowed down I would find myself looking for things to do. There wasn't much besides set up for the next test, and once that's done, there really IS nothing else except wait for a problem to arise or a test to end.

So what's the difference if I spend a while surfing Iboats, or doing something else like throwing on a game? As long as I am in the building I am doing my job. If a customer calls, it's drop everything and assist them until they no longer need assistance.

With that aside (didn't really have to justify it but I felt like it),

Yeah KaGee I Halo2. I also HalfLife2 as well. HalfLife2 only on PC for multiplayer though. I'm "DeadBeef".

PS - Not sure what generation you think I am from, but I have had a job since I was 15, non-stop, no exceptions. That includes going to high school and two colleges. I have worked full time since I was 19. That was over 10 years ago. I also have a wife, a daughter, a quarter-million dollar house, three cars, a motorcycle and a boat. And not a dime of any of that came out of your pocket, it came out of mine.

I guess some jobs are like that. Point taken.

Maybe you should have made that clear before you posted. I still stand behind my statement of the work ethic in this country.

No problem, like I said it was a system shock even for me and I work there. When I tell other people about it they either think I'm lazy or lying. I am neither and am proud of what I've done.

Peace be with you Flat.

Stiffy - just make sure you dont have any Banks or financial customers using your DR site.

It is against FFIEC guidelines to have games on local computers, even if the network has no outside connections.

The 360 is a game maximed PC.

So if you hook up this machine to your local network and you have bank customers I know my banking customers would freak out

however if someone gets into your DR site via this system you will be gone within 24 hours and your company will be gone within 6 months...

I would play a gameboy or PSP before doing what you are doing.

tomatolord

Re: Working hard here, third shift.

Thanks tomato,

It's never on any company network. If we did do some multiplayer with multiple consoles, the room switches are isolated from any other network in the building and the ports in the room only connect to the other ports in the room (each other) unless specifically hard wired to another network for a test.

Thanks for the heads up though. We get tons of clients from all walks. Including clients that schedule and pay for 12-24 hours of their 'test' to simply write alternating 0's and 1's on thir disks over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.... to ensure absolutely positively no possibility of data recovery once they leave. Those are fun because they are so secretive we are rarely if ever allowed to get in the systems to even help them so it's smooth sailing. (they're also usually the ones who really know what they're doing in the first place)

Military (and their contractors) is great for this.

I may have asked this question before and will probably get the same response, but what is a tomatolord?

Stiff - I bet I know what company you work for. :) Mind if I post my guess?

If I'm right, my company has used them in the past, and my sister currently works for them.

Hey Jsfinn,

It's not a tough guess if you know the field I'm in. :)

I'd rather you not say specifically, but can't stop you if you do. :)
