Got this boat off craigslist more for the boat than the motor so when the motor ran that was a big plus.

Got it home, pulled the plugs, sprayed the cylinders, drained the gas, put it back together new gas and it fired right up.

The VRO oil hose had been cut off and there doesn't appear to be a tank anywhere in the boat either so, I'm just missing gas for now.

I'm finding though that this motor has been seriously "hacked" on by someone who didn't know what they were doing.

The throttle quadrant/remote took a crap the other day and wouldn't work. I took it apart and there was a screw that holds the low idle lever in place broken off. Managed to get the broken piece out and replaced the screw. The plastic parts look pretty worn all of the plastic bushings are badly worn, but it was still working before it fell apart inside.

But now I can't get full throttle. Tried working on it on the water. Bad idea. accidentally pulled some crappy repaired wires apart and then broke off or found a coil lead broken off the coil. One spark plug wire was barely connected to the boot and came out, So now I've made a bad situation worse.

On the bright side. I found a bunch of really iffy crap than is pretty easy to fix.
I also found out it had two different kinds of coils and the one that was different was really screwed up. It had two posts and was grounded internally to the head. The bigger coil post was for the spark plug and the smaller one was for a power lead. But someone had tried to use a crimp clamp to attach it and the wires were barely even connected. But it still had been running before I broke the wire off.

I couldn't find the right coil locally, but was able to find another one just like the odd one that was already on there. I replaced the broken one and installed the new one. I also have two new ones coming that are supposed to be the right ones, but they are on a slow boat from china.

Anyway. Now starts the problem.

First time I took it out after I had taken the remote control apart. It was VERY hard to start and when I finally got it started would not go to WOT. Not sure if its an adjustment, the new coil, or what. I suspected the starting and WOT were related and assumed I had screwed up the remote some how. Took it home and took the quadrant apart and everything seemed to be ok. So then I figured maybe it hadn't been right to begin with and now that it was put together right just need to be adjusted.
So I adjusted the throttle linkage so it was hard up against WOT when at full forward and took it back out on the lake.

Still no full throttle on the lake.

I wasn't able to work on it much because in the process I noticed there was a LOT of gas coming from the fuel pump.

Enough that I was worried about a spark, a boom, and a swim home.

So I have a couple of questions.

1. I took the fuel pump apart. It looked fine. Screws were NOT particularily tight, but they weren't loose either. Can I use some rtv or other gas sealant and put that back together? I'm guessing if it has enough pressure to leak that bad I can at least rule out fuel pressure, fix the leak and rule out fuel supply too.

Just some more general information. When I move the throttle there is pretty much engine rpm response through the whole range of movement. It just doesn't seem to ever reach wide open.

It still is very hard to start and acts like it is starved for fuel, so I'm hoping that goes away when I fix the fuel pump leak.

Any thoughts would be great

Thanks
