Im moving my boat (the one in my shareaproject page) to my parrents garage tomorrow(thanksgiving). They are letting me use their garage for the winter to work on my boat. Im planning on taking the floor back up and install a fuel tank and open up the closed bow. What i need is heat in there. It is a 1 and a half car garage with the wide door. Im going to be doing gringing glassing and whatever else in there. There is a ventilation fan in there already but im wondering what kind of heater ill need in there. Its just big enough that if there was nothing in there you could fit 2 cars. There is tools and cabinents along 1 side so its not like a small garage. Im thinking about getting this "http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=220639-234-RLLP35A . Im not sure if that is enough though. Im going to vent it well and especially when im grinding or glassing. Not sure to get that or something like this "http://www.denlorstools.com/home/dt1/page_3787_406/reddy_heater_redhd15_propanelp_infra_red_tank_toph.html . Im not sure of that eather. I also have been thinking about one of those round basic kerosiene heaters like this "http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=93043-000079999-RMC-95C7&lpage=none or this "http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=239878-57645-PT55SS&lpage=none . not sure what to do for heat. Id like to keep the cost as low as possible so i have more funds on the boat supplies i need.

I use this heater in my garage (about 420sq ft.) 'http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=35277-33454-EW6507L and it works very well, mind you the garage is insulated. This heater would be much safer then the others you are looking at and cheaper.

I have a 2 car garage and have had the 1st kerosene heater you listed going for 1 hour in 15? weather, it brought it up to 65?. There is a slight odor from kerosene, if it bothers you, you may want to go with the propane.

I should add, 2 of my garage walls and the ceiling are against the heated house, the 3rd wall is insulated, as is the door.

You don't want the tank top radiant propane heater, I've used them Not enough heat! The 1st one will do the job, but it will probably use a lot of propane. Not sure about the others, but IMO the DeLonghi electric heater is a joke, I couldn't get it to heat, a heated bedroom.

I have a portable, forced air, propane heater, similar to the one you listed, but I think mine tops at 135,000 BTU.

It works great for me at it will take my old uninsulated 1 car garage, from well below freezing to 70 degrees in 10-15 minutes.

The down side is even if I set it to the lowest output (35K BTU I think), the room tempreature will get too high and I will have to turn the unit off, as it does not have a thermostat. Not sure if one can be used, like with the kerosene salamanders.

I usually heat the garage with this heater then use one of the cheap electric "milkhouse heaters" to keep the area I'm working warm. If it cools off too much, I'll fire it back up.

With those 20 LB tank propane heaters, how do you know how much fresh air you have to let in?

I have a garage the same size...
It's insulated on only the 2 inside walls, while the door and the other wall are not insulated.

I use a small electric heater that cost me about $10 from Lowes, and within 1 hour it's up to 60 degrees (from 35), and I never have to worry about explosions from the acetone or resin fumes.

Watch out for excess humidity when using unvented radiant propane heaters in your garage or cabin. Combustion produces lots of water vapor. No vent and that vapor's in the air, condensing on everything that's cold (like metal tools). I tried running two in my garage for a couple hours every night after work so I could get in some shop time. They made it warm enough to work out there, and I was happy for almost a week. Then I noticed that the tools & hardware were getting surface rust and the window panes were frosted over and I had to scrape frost off the car windows in the mornings (the car was INSIDE the garage). It gets like a rain forest in there with those heaters going. Electric radiant heaters work OK in the Fall & Spring and run dry, but it's too cold in Winter for them to to keep up. Next year I'm putting in a little wood burner. At least I'll get shop time on weekends; weeknights, by the time I get the fire going and the garage warmed up it'll be time to put it out so I can go to bed. Wisconsin Winters are frustrating.
