I have an older Arctic Spirit 50 HP, 2 cyl outboard. the numbers are ( 5001 ) and ( d 11730 ) on the transom plate. part of suzuki?? also a second metal plate with ( 500813 ) this has compression and goes in / out of gear, the prop moves if in gear and manualy turned over. any idea how old and if any parts or manuals still exist?

Spirit outboards can be a tough nut to crack. Made by Suzuki, they really aren't supported at all by Suzuki dealers.

Your model number is the 500813, but even that is a conundrum. Here's a list from iboats.com:

http://www.iboats.com/Spirit/bpe/20br2238

From that list, if you look at the series of model numbers on the right, yours should fit into the 1978 model year, but the list shows different model numbers for that year. Still, I'd be willing to bet that it's a 1978 model.

Parts are going to be very tough to find. www.tcoutboards.com may have some, since they were marketed by a Minnesota company. I see quite a few of them on boats around the Twin Cities.

Best of luck. That's all the info I can dig up.

I don't know. It all depends on what you find to be the problems with it. If you can find needed parts, why not?

Re: worth saving?

thats a great link that you posted with the years and models to Spirit engines... Thanks! now i know that my motor is a 1980... and that will help me find parts. how did you find it on I boats? this site is great most of the time but sometimes you just cannot find what ya need... On some of the questions that i've posted there's been over 400 views and not one person replied or commented... Im just saying, whenever I have information that may help someone, I reply as we al should... thats what drives this site's popularity and helps us all to get back on the water... tight lines, mattyrich.
