Worth the upgrade?

I've got a 1959 5.5hp Johnson, two line pressure tank with a 25-1 mix ratio that I ressurected thanks to you guys here.

I've wanted to upgrade to a 9.9hp as you don't need to register anything under 10hp here, and lake restrictions.

However, I have an opportunity to jump on a 1987 8hp Johnson. Single line, 50-1 mix ratio...

It's going on a 14' aluminum fishing boat that I want to use in small lakes and rivers with 2 adults in it. The 5.5hp moves us around the lake pretty good, but I'm concerned going against the current on a river would bring us to a crawl.

I've learned 9.9's are hard to come by and expensive on the used market. Should I jump on it? I'm leaning towards yes but would love to hear opinions from people more knowlegable then myself.

The 87 8HP has nearly as much power as the 1974 9.9. all other things being equal. That's because of the change in rating systems in 1985.
