Hi new to the boating scene and this forum . I have a 1990 wellcraft 186 eclipse with a 4.3 mercrusier and a alpha 1 out drive. Ive run the boat several times and can't seem to get more than 3,000 rpm's out of it. I have checked all linkages to make sure it is getting full throttle and that butterfly's on carb are opening full. I've done a tune up on it no matter what I do it will not go above 3,000 rpm I've done all the trimming and what not it takes a bit to get it to plane out at a loss runs like a top starts great idles great no noises stumped on what to do or check thanks for any help prop is a aluminum 3 blade 14x19 top speed is 31 mph

Have you verified the RPMs with a shop Tach, or are you going off of the often inaccurate RPM gauge on the Dash?

Have you had the boat weighed to make sure it isn't water logged?

Go through this list and let us know what you find,

possibly ask the mercruiser Forum as well. That prop seems correct for that boat so I am guessing it is an unrelated issue.

Before you spend any money on the boat itself, I would get it weighed. Do some research and figure out what the dry weight of the boat is and what the weight of your trailer is. Figure in fuel, batteries and equipment. Take it to a truck scale and weigh the entire rig. It is easy and cheap and will tell you if it is water logged or not. Nothing worse than spending money and time on a boat that ends up needing a complete overhaul.
