I have a 7.5 merc on 9 foot inflatable dinghy, while this motor does pretty good a couple more HP would be better. As a result I find myself running at or near WOT much of the time.....My question, is this motor designed to be run a WOT without problems? I can run slower if necessary but kinda have a heavy wrist..................Thanks!!

Re: WOT Question

I have a bigger engine (75hp), but what I find when running WOT is, WOT a gas hog! Man does that thing suck gas at WOT! Back off a few hundred RPM and it seems like it uses half as much gas. Still playing with this theory, but it definitely hogs the gas an appreciable amount at WOT.

Re: WOT Question

Ed, if you watch the throttle pickup when the bonnet is off you will see that most engines do not open the throttle butterflies till about 1/2 throttle thats what cruising speed is about, saving fuel.
