i'm new here and been spending the last several hours just reading the posts.
WOW!!! a lot of good info! now, i just picked up a 1996 crestliner 1750 sportfish with a 1996 johnson 60hp(large gearcase) outboard on it. the prop on it when i got it meet up with mother earth and lost! so after looking around for a while i bought a mich 13 1/4" x 17p prop. the choices i had were 15p,17p,19p,21p.
my first time out was yesterday and she ran great. big load off my shoulders for sure!! now the questions. when i throttle up she seems to come onto plane fairly quick but top end seems a little slow. 27mph @4700 rpm.
i also have a 1990 monarch 16ft walleye boat with a 1990 merc 40hp with a 17p prop that will do 27mph @ 5300rpm(29mph with the breeze to my back).
remember that the crestliner/johnson combo is new to me and i'm not sure if this is what i'm supposed to get for performance. i replaced the plugs with new champions gapped @ .030, new lower end oil and the new prop. not knowing what this motor had for a life before me is this what i should expect or should i have more rpm's from her? does anybody know the WOT rating for this motor or if there are any common problems with this motor?
thank you in advance!!!!

Don't know that outboard but I'm sure you won't do as many repairs as the merc! happy boating

Re: wot question

moving to prop forum. one impeller change is 15 years is wreckless. you just got lucky, i know of one that was never changed in 29 years, but again wreckless, endangerment of the powerhead.
