Would an extra 1970 powerhead help me with my 1975 115 HP?

I have an opportunity to get a 1970 115 HP powerhead for $50. I currently have a 1975 115 HP.

I know that the coils and ignition or different, but I think the carbs and all the heads and such are the same.

Am I right in assuming that all V4 heads and blocks of a give HP size are interchangeable. I have been told this, but have been unable to completely verify it.

Will, this powerhead possibly provide me with anything useful?

Thanks,
Joe

yes, The bore and stroke are the same. not sure if the heads and carbs are the same or not but for $50.00 you cant go wrong as you can part it out on ebay and make money if parts will not interchange.

tvpear12,

Thanks for the reply. If it was closer I would get it in a heartbeat, but it is almost 200 miles away, so it would cost as much to go get it as the darn thing costs to buy. If it was the right year, I would go, or if it was close...but off year AND long drive, I might pass on it.

Thanks,
Joe

The bore of the 1970 115 is smaller (3.44 vs 3.5). Though the designs are very similar, not much interchanges between these motors. The V4 families are 1969-72,1973-77/78, and 1979+ (very roughly speaking).

Ledgefinder,

Thanks for the reply, that is exactly the information I am looking for.

I am basically looking for a powerhead that I could use hard parts off of. Things like heads, and even things like bypass covers or exhaust covers in case I break one somehow.

I was thinking that the carbs might be the same, since they do use the same carb rebuild kits...but I know how rebuild kits can be somewhat universal.

Oh well, at least I didn't spend the weekend driving to pick up a powerhead that wouldn't do me any good. :)

Thanks again,
Joe
