Would prop change help bow rise and porpoising?

First off, please forgive me for the aparent double post. I have a thread in the general section on smart tabs not fitting due to limited clearances with exhaust ports and side clearance to drive.

I have a 2007 Stingray 210 LR with 4.3 mpi w/thru hull. Current prop is 3 blade black max 14.25x21. I would like to correct bow rise, slow to plane, and porpoising at speed. I can apply very little trim at speed with this boat because it will porpois badly. Top end is roughly 58mph at approx 4800 rpm WOT, which I really can't use on my local lakes (45 mph speed limit). I wouldn't mind giving up some speed to correct the other problems. I just purchased this boat used with under 25hrs, so, I know that I really should have a spare prop anyway and I was hoping to be able to find a new prop that worked better, and keep the original as a spare.

Would another prop help to correct the above deficiencies? If so, would you be able to make a recommendation on prop configuration and size?

TIA

I have a very similar boat. I have a Larson LXI 208 with a 5.0GXI with alluminum 14.25 X 21 prop I had very similar problems. I added the smart tabs which reduced the bow rise and a lot of porpoising but I still needed more hole shot for tubing, sking and boarding, ( two teenage boys!) I went to a 14.25 X 20 4 blade Stainless Steel Michigan Wheel, sold here on Iboats, $230.00 with free shipping. I lost about 3 MPH on the top end from 59 down to 56 but the hole shot coupled with the smart tabs was really improved almost no bow rise, lower plane speed and I can maintain the plane at slower speeds for boarding. You cannot beat a SS prop for under $250.00!

Thank you Jim.

Would you say there was a significant reduction in bow rise from the prop alone, as opposed to prop and tabs? I'm asking because I do not think I will find any tabs that will fit, so, I will likely have to rely on prop alone.

sutor,

I agree with you. But you missed the point. I can not install smart tabs on this boat. I need "other" recomendations.

I agree with using something (wedges) to create offsets to get the parallel to the actual transom.

Stingrays that porpoise need tabs.

4-blade props can help, but 80-90% of the work is done by tabs. Given you have a notorious porpoiser (Stingray hull), I'd really think about tabs. Don't give up that fight yet.

I'm getting close...to throwing in the towel that is.

Don't throw in the towel! call Naticus and talk with a rep. They are very helpful and may have a solution to your mounting problem. I agree. I used the tabs prior to changing props and saw a major difference. When I combined the tabs with the four blade prop I got maximum the hole shot, bow rise reduction and the lower on plane speed I was looking for. Good Luck, Stingray boats are well built and have a very fast hull!

thanks all.
I know I need tabs. Now, I just need to find something that will fit.

I suppose I could've modified the top bracket on the smart tabs to alow for clearance under the exhaust ports, but, It appeared that the tabs would've been way to close to the outdrive (I think I had like 6" between the edge of tab and the outdrive).
