Would this Cause an Overheat?

If you look at the exhaust gasket to the right of the water pump, it is melted in two places.

My motor has been overheating on me, and I checked my water pump and everything looked pretty good. Since they are cheap, and I had it apart, I went ahead and replaced it, but also noticed the exhaust gasket being melted. If my water pump is working fine, would this cause an overheat as well?

Here is a picture:

You can see where the gasket has melted in two areas and deformed.

Thanks

My Yamaha 250 ss is overheating. The buzzer went off instantly as I turned on the motor to do another drift. Could it be the Thermostats? Please let me know. Thanks.
