Im obviously no outboard mechanic which is why Im asking for help and some people are very rude and less than helpful. If anybody can truly help me while understanding Im new to this then it would be much appreciated. And as for telling me to stop posting new threads, I was getting tons of views with no replies then pushed down the list. So of course Im going to post a new thread as the old one was stale. Now back to my question, if the impeller looks good, shouldnt it at least spit water if not flow it? The motor sat, but Ive had ones sit way longer and still flow plenty, this one doesnt even spit water. Could this still just be the impeller? Thank you to those that are truly helpful =)

First off Welcome aboard. You have to be patient. While your thread moves down. There are a lot of lookers on here. As well there are a lot of guys who will spend hours on here just to help. But that doesent neccesarly mean they are here when you are. So at least wait a day.
Are you talking water impellar? If so check to see if an insect plugged your pee hole. All so give a make and model.

A bump is better than many unanswered threads. Forum rules and regs make this the best place to be for boat stuff. If an impeller sits and solidifies it still 'looks' good. A good practice is, as long as you're in there, change it. Here's to better times.

Re: Wow hardly helped and very rude.

Well said. I was going to say we need to know hp, make, model, etc. I know my 15 hp doesn't pee, it's not supposed to. I didn't scroll down to find the previous posts, so please give us more information.

I can say that I've been following this forum for years and have just begun posting, but most of my questions have been answered, and usually quickly. Might take a day or two. I know it's hard to be patient with the holiday quickly approaching, but you'll get your answers and it will be worth it. Otherwise, we'd all spend way to much on the mechanics!

Re: Wow hardly helped and very rude.

This thread moves the slowest of nearly all the threads on this site. Just for fun, mark one of the Johnson or Mercury posts in that forum, wait a day, and see where it ends up. Remember, most of the experts on here are WAY busy. Anyway, so if the impeller housing is pitted or worn the flow will suffer. The flow will also be impacted by the wrong muffs, or barrell not deep enough. I have 50-150hp Chrysler and Force motors that refuse to spit water on muffs, but are just fine in the lake. It is also easy to damage the plastic coupler on the pump when reinstalling the lower unit. This could cause hard priming issues. Try deeper water, or muff/barrell combo, then report back. Impellers are yearly maintenance replacement parts. Get a new one every spring when you change the gear oil. Its only in the $16-$20 buck range to your door, and far cheaper than overheating.

AH HA! some useful information (gotta have that useful info :D)

The Force 7.5/9.9/15HP OB's don't have a tell-tale (water pizzer) on them. The 2 holes in the leg are exhaust relief ports, and you'll only see water misting/spraying out. When I'm running my 7.5 (idling out of the no-wake zone) I'll reach back around and put my hand across the idle relief ports and see if there is water sprayed on my hand...

How deep is the lower unit in the barrel, it needs to be deep enough to submerge the water pump. If the impeller hasn't been changed in a year or 2, change it, even if it looks good. There is a thermostat on these OB's, so that might be suspect if it isn't flowing water after it warms up.

Also, from all the post I've seen concerning these OB's, install a new fuel pump kit is it hasn't been done. Ethanol isn't very kind to those old rubber parts.

I have no knowledge of a 9.9 specifically ( I have a 50 ) but it really can only be a thermostat, bad impellor or some kind of blockage in your cooling system.

Fisherdan say's it best.
No pee tube unless it's been added later.
The exhaust exit's from the snout under the cavitation plate.

Get a set of muffs and then see if it's pumping.
Or take the thermostat out and see if it's pumping.
Like the others said were busy and don't always live on the site!

Please try reading our rules, bubbaman.

11. Please do not post multiple threads in multiple forums about a single problem. This is confusing to those trying to help you. Multiple threads in the same forum about the same issue are also confusing. If you want help fast, one thread in the most closely related forum is the best way to get it.

You posted the same question four times on the same page. I asked you to stop doing that. If that was rude I apologize.

Replying to your original thread will move it to the top.

Re: Wow hardly helped and very rude.

I have a 1997 9.9 hp Force. Mine has a rectangule block on the back of the leg. Under this block is the thermostat. When I run mine in a barrel, water is coming out at all times through the idle relief holes. As the motor warms up this water will become warm, in my case 105 degrees. Try taking the thermostat out and see if something might be blocking it. Also make sure the thermostat is working properly by putting it in a pan of hot water to see if it opens when it's supposed to. I hope this helps a little.

By the way, I'm going to put a telltale on my 9.9 tomorrow. Seems like a good idea.

^^^ Post up some pics. I've been wanting to do that, but haven't. There's supposed to be a thread about it here in the forums, somewhere.

Re: Wow hardly helped and very rude.

Unfortunately, my 9.9 hp Force doesn't have the pipe plug so that I can easily install the telltale. I guess I could drill and tap it but not sure I want to bother with it. I'll just replace the impeller every 2 years and keep an eye on it.
