The power ball that is...
Was won in a small town a few miles from me, Jacksonville Oregon.

I hear a rumor though... that the ticket was purchased at one of those lottery vending machines by the family's MINOR son and the store's surveillance camera has him on video doing so.

Anyone heard about this?

H.

Re: WOW.. The lottery was close to home this time!

Tonight they said on the news the guy bought $40 worth of tickets, and had never played before. I would bet it's impossible to tell by the security video that it was a minor buying THE winning ticket. It certainly wouldn't show the numbers.

I talked to my uncle on the phone and he bought two tickets where they think the winner was sold.

One of the $800,000+ 5 number winning tickets was sold in Tualatin about 5 miles from me. I was going to buy a ticket in tualatin the day of the drawing but decided to spend the buck at Wendy's...

Are the odds of winning better now with a smaller jackpot and less people playing? I'd be almost as happy with $15 million as $340 million. :D

Edit: the owner of the store that has a 1 in 2 chance of being the place the ticket was sold doesn't even know yet if he sold it. Any allegations of suspicious videotape are clearly false...

The odds are always the same in a numbers lotto regardless of number of players or tickets sold. Odds do change in raffles though depending on participants.

I wish they had 340 $1 million dollar winners instead of 1 $340 million dollar winner.

Better yet, 3400 $100,000 winners. That would be better for the economy and with 3400 winners around the country telling everyone to play more people would.

I've never played the lottery. It's a poor man's tax.

99.99999999999999999% of everyone who plays loses and the 1 winner gives back most of the winnings to the government in taxes.

Your odds in winning this were 146,000,000:1.

In other words, completely fill your 20x15 living room to the ceiling with phone books. Now, blindfolded, pick out the one phone book with your name in it, then open it to the exact page that has your name, and finally, drop a pencil to exactly hit your name.

That is how tough it is to win. Like I said, it's a poor man's tax. You'd be better off buying options in the stock market where you at least have a 50/50 chance of making some money.
