Wrist pin?

What's the best way to diagnose a bad wrist pin? I have a slight tapping noise coming from the block (250 OX66 with 225 hrs). It's not the O2 draw tube as I just replaced that.

pulling the heads and pushing down on the pistons is the best way
or even trying to go though the spark plug holes
