wrong coil causing engine to miss?

I have been trying to diagnose an engine misfire (at low RPM's/idle) on my '79 100hp and was inspecting the coils and noticed that the top coil on the right side was actually a coil that is used on "'85-thru" models. Obviouslly my 1979 motor does not fall under the category or '85-thru. Could this cause the misfire at low rpms? And could this be doing or have done any damage to other parts of the ignition system or motor?

I obviouslly am going to replace the coil with the correct one but I want to know if I should check other engine components if this incorrect part could've potentially done some damage.

replaced wrong coil with brand new correct part and no change in performance. The miss must be being caused by something else...but at least there's peace of mind knowing that the correct coil is installed.

Don't mean to bore you with the details, but I am a converted objectionist. Do a decarb, see search for decarb. Give it a couple weeks to work. Then come back if your problem is not solved.....then keep some Sea Foam in your fuel always. Reluctantly, but pleasantly surprised BTDT.
